It is an election year, so Missourians are being exposed to the multiple messages of Claire McCaskill. In her memoir, Plenty Ladylike, she called New York Senator Chuck Schumer one of her closest friends in the Senate. In fact, they are such good friends that she paid for his $15,000 Cancun vacation.
Now that she wants to be reelected she is pretending to keep Schumer at arm’s length. In a new interview with National Journal she stated:
“I spend a lot of my time telling him to stay out of Missouri and leave me alone,” she said. “My view of issues are not always in line with Senator Schumer’s. I mean, he’s really smart and he works hard to keep our caucus united, and I respect that, but he and I don’t always see eye to eye on everything. Frankly, I don’t need him. I know Missouri; he doesn’t. I don’t need him in Missouri.”
Claire can’t seem to keep her stories straight. Let’s be clear: Claire is Chuck Schumer’s ally. She can pretend to distance herself from him, but Missouri voters are well aware of her allegiance to the liberal leader of the Senate.
