ON THIS DAY: Hillary Visits Missouri

Four years ago today, Hillary Clinton came to Kansas City to promote her book “Hard Choices.” Hillary’s trip to Missouri came over two years prior to Election Day, but just over twelve months after Claire McCaskill endorsed her for president

Despite McCaskill being a donor and vocal surrogate for Clinton, Hillary went on to lose Missouri by double-digits in 2016. McCaskill even defended Hillary’s now-infamous statement calling Trump supporters a racist and bigoted “basket of deplorables,” calling it “a valid point” and stated that supporting Hillary in the 2016 Democratic primary was “not a hard choice”:

“This is not a hard choice, and I don’t think it will be a hard choice for America. This is a woman who is tested, who has a strong resume of accomplishments in every important job she’s had. She doesn’t need to get briefed about the complicated world we live in. The reason this is not hard is because of who she is at this point in time in our county’s history.”
