ON THIS DAY: McCaskill Defends Clinton

Two years ago, Claire McCaskill appeared on MSNBC’s Morning Joe to campaign for her close friend, Hillary Clinton. McCaskill defended Clinton’s use of private email during her tenure as Secretary of State, and even equated Clinton’s “extremely careless” private email use to a radio appearance by President Trump:

“Well listen, I think the American people are going to have to decide, is a candidates mistake trying to protect her privacy more of a problem than a president who goes on national radio shows and for hours gives us a play-by-play of his sex life with his now wife.”

McCaskill viewed Clinton’s email use as merely a “mistake,” despite the potential national security damage. McCaskill, a Clinton donor and was one of the first U.S. Senators to endorse Clinton, has yet to indicate if she will welcome Clinton to Missouri to campaign for her after Clinton indicated earlier this week that she is ready and willing to support Democrats in 2018.
