ON THIS DAY: McCaskill’s “Whopper” Of A Lie

Last year today, Claire McCaskill lied to the people of Missouri when she falsely claimed that she had never met with a Russian ambassador. She tweeted out:

“I’ve been on the Armed Services Com for 10 years. No call or meeting w/Russian ambassador. Ever. Ambassadors call members of Foreign Rel Com.”

Of course, McCaskill’s statement was absolutely false and earned her the dubious recognition as one of the “Whoppers of 2017” from nonpartisan FactCheck.org’s list of the “year’s worst falsehoods and bogus claims.” The respected fact-checking site concluded that McCaskill’s claim was an outright lie:

Sen. Claire McCaskill, a Missouri Democrat, criticized Attorney General Jeff Sessions for failing to disclose that he met twice as a senator with the Russian ambassador during the campaign in 2016. Sessions said he did so as a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee. In a statement and on Twitter, McCaskill falsely claimed that in her 10 years on the Senate Armed Services Committee she had ‘no call from, or meeting with, the Russian ambassador. Ever.’ She did.”
