A new piece from The Associated Press profiles the role longtime friend of Claire McCaskill, Hillary Clinton, will play in the upcoming midterm elections. The article indicates that Clinton wants to be “helpful” to her fellow liberals:
“Clinton’s midterm travel schedule is far from set. Spokesman Nick Merrill said it’s too early to say which general election races she’ll likely focus on in the coming months. ‘The bottom line is that she wants to be helpful, so we’ll be looking at how best to do that in the weeks and months to come,’ Merrill said.”
But will Claire welcome Clinton to Missouri? Speaking at an event this morning, the chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, Senator Chis Van Hollen (D-MD), indicated he is supportive of Clinton’s involvement in the midterms:
“We welcome support from everybody who wants to help, including Secretary Clinton.”
McCaskill was a Clinton donor and was one of the first U.S. Senators to endorse Clinton. McCaskill made frequent media appearances to heap praise on Hillary, saying that supporting Hillary was “not a hard choice”:
“This is not a hard choice, and I don’t think it will be a hard choice for America. This is a woman who is tested, who has a strong resume of accomplishments in every important job she’s had. She doesn’t need to get briefed about the complicated world we live in. The reason this is not hard is because of who she is at this point in time in our county’s history.”
McCaskill went so far as to defend Hillary’s now-infamous statement calling Trump supporters a “basket of deplorables,” calling it “a valid point.” With Hillary planning to fundraise and campaign for Democratic candidates later this year, McCaskill now has the opportunity to welcome her friend Hillary to Missouri to return the favor.
